This month features Masdevallia veitchiana, arguably one of the most spectacular members of the genus and its hybrids. The species hails from the exotic environs of Machu Picchu, the 15th century Inca citadel situated on an Andean ridge nearly 8,000 feet (2,430 m) above sea level near Cusco, Peru.
