2018/08 August ORCHIDS Magazine
This issue features a stunningly illustrated article on selected habenaria hybrids by Leon Glicenstein. Leon has written about jewel orchids and other terrestrials on for Orchids on numerous occasions. Peter Adams shares with us the Australian and New Guinea dendrobiums featured in Cogniaux's and Goossens Dictionary of Orchids. Wolfgang Rysy presents a beautifully illustrated article on a group of bulbophyllums that have, at one time or another been placed in the section Bracyantha (Umbellatae) including a terrific new species he had the good fortune to describe. Speaking of bulbos, Bill Thoms shares with us the first in a series of articles on this fascinating genus. If you've read Bill's prior articles or his book, you know he knows his stuff. Rounding out this month's issue is an article by Dino Zelenika on the orchids of Myanmar.
In addition to our features, this issue also contains another GREATIdea by Jean Allen-Ikeson, another in Tom Mirenda's monthly checklists written in his usual friendly style as well as the first in a two-part series on the cypripediums of China. Paphiopedilum glanduliferum is the subject of this month's New Refugium Botanicum series and Peggy Alrich and Wes Higgins illustrate Anacamptis morio for Orchids Illustrated. Rounding out this month's departments is another in Sue Bottom's terrific For the Novice series on the uses of hydrogen peroxide in our collections.
